The Advantages of NOT Using Insurance

  • No Visit Limits

Oftentimes, children will require weekly sessions for at least 6-12 months to achieve their goals and maximize functional outcomes. That comes out to be 26-52 visits in a calendar year. However, some insurance plans limit the number of visits that your child is able to receive in a year. For example, some insurance plans only allow for 20 or 30 visits for the entire year for combined therapy services. Meaning, if your child also requires services from a physical and speech therapist, these 20-30 visits have to be shared among all services. This drastically limits the amount of sessions that will be covered within a short amount of time. When insurance is taken out of the equation, your child is able to be seen for as many sessions as they need without having to worry about a limit or gap in coverage for much needed services.

  • Can Be Less Expensive than Typical Occupational Therapy

Some families may wait to seek services until later in the year when using insurance due to waiting to meet their deductible. The cost of their co-pay on top of paying out of pocket,( because they haven't met thier dedecutable), can cost the same if not more than a private pay session. By choosing private pay services, the time of year that your child receives treatment is no longer based on whether or not your deductible has been met. It is based on the immediate needs of your child.

  • Choose the Therapist/Clinic You Want

Choosing private pay services allows you the freedom to choose who your child sees and does not limit you to only clinics and providers that are only "in-network" with your insurance plan. You can prioritize selecting a provider who is the best fit for you and your child.
